7 December 2012: Port Elizabeth, South Africa
– Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power
and temperature control
services, is to continue its sponsorship of the South African Tag Rugby® Association for the second consecutive year.
The Association, an affiliate member of the South African Rugby Union (SARU), promotes the sport of Tag Rugby® across South Africa as a positive influence on young people through physical activity and team participation. Aggreko is sponsoring the Port Elizabeth Tag Rugby® Festival, which is running alongside the Port Elizabeth IRB Sevens this weekend at the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Stadium.
The Tag Rugby® programme included a clinic on 4th December that saw over 60 local schoolchildren take to the pitch for an afternoon of fun and running rugby. Clarendon Park Primary School, the top-placed team from the clinic, will now play in the SARU Tag Rugby® Under-9 Festival, to be held at the NMB Stadium on the morning of Sunday 9th December. The final will be held on the main pitch during the IRB Sevens later that day.
In addition to the youth programme, a combined Aggreko and Tag Rugby® Association team will challenge a team comprising local media personalities and Tag Rugby® ambassadors – current Springbok Chiliboy Ralepelle and ex-Springbok Gcobani Bobo - to a game of Tag Rugby®. The match will raise R5,000 to be donated to the David Livingstone High School for the purchase of Tag Rugby® equipment and to provide coaching.
Aggreko has donated R25,000 to assist in the running of the Port Elizabeth Tag Rugby® Festival, and will provide all the coaching materials for the programme across South Africa in 2013.
Stuart McConnell, Director, the Tag Rugby® Association, said: “We are thrilled to have Aggreko continue their sponsorship of the Tag Rugby® programme here in South Africa for another year. Their support will have a massive impact on the success of the event and will also help us to continue the programme into 2013.”
“Tag Rugby® is a wonderful initiative and something we are very proud to be a part of,” commented Martin Foster, Head of Local Business, Aggreko Southern Africa. “Rugby is a great influence for children, both in body and mind. To see all these happy, healthy children enjoying themselves in such a positive environment is simply awesome; and who knows, we may even have some future Springbok stars among us.”
